R638 Food Safety Course
Course Overview
Our R638 Food Safety Course is designed to equip food handlers, supervisors, managers, and food business operators with the essential knowledge, awareness, and practical skills required to maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene in accordance with Regulation R638 and workplace food safety requirements. The R638 Food Safety Course focuses on preventing food contamination, reducing the risk of foodborne illnesses, and ensuring that food is received, stored, prepared, handled, transported, and served safely. Through a combination of theoretical learning, practical demonstrations, and workplace activities, participants gain the confidence needed to apply safe food handling practices that protect consumers and support legal compliance. The R638 Food Safety Course promotes a strong culture of hygiene, cleanliness, responsibility, and safe food handling within food premises.
The R638 Food Safety Course provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of food safety principles, personal hygiene requirements, contamination risks, cleaning and sanitising procedures, temperature control, pest management, waste disposal, and safe food handling practices. Participants will learn how to identify biological, chemical, physical, and allergen hazards, prevent cross-contamination, apply effective cleaning procedures, maintain hygienic work areas, and comply with workplace food safety policies and legal requirements. The R638 Food Safety Course also helps learners understand the importance of proper food storage, temperature monitoring, personal cleanliness, handwashing, protective clothing, and maintaining hygienic food preparation areas.
A strong emphasis is placed on the practical application of food safety procedures within real workplace environments. Learners will develop the skills required to maintain personal hygiene, correctly use protective clothing, monitor food temperatures, store food safely, clean and sanitise food contact surfaces, and recognise food safety hazards before they become risks. Practical demonstrations and workplace-based activities within the R638 Food Safety Course ensure that learners are able to apply food safety principles confidently and consistently. Participants will also learn how good hygiene practices can prevent contamination and help protect customers and employees from foodborne illnesses.
This R638 Food Safety Course is ideal for businesses that prepare, manufacture, package, transport, store, distribute, or sell food and are required to comply with Regulation R638 and workplace food safety standards. Properly trained food handlers assist organisations in protecting public health, reducing food safety risks, improving hygiene standards, and supporting compliance with South African food safety legislation. The R638 Food Safety Course is suitable for food handlers, kitchen staff, chefs, hospitality employees, retail food staff, catering personnel, food manufacturers, cleaners, supervisors, managers, and any employee involved in handling food.
By completing the R638 Food Safety Course, participants gain practical food safety knowledge that can be applied in restaurants, kitchens, bakeries, supermarkets, catering operations, food manufacturing facilities, hospitality establishments, and other food-handling environments. The R638 Food Safety Course helps learners understand their responsibilities for maintaining hygienic food premises, preventing contamination, following safe food handling procedures, and supporting effective food safety management. This makes the R638 Food Safety Course a valuable training programme for organisations seeking to improve food hygiene standards and maintain compliance with Regulation R638 requirements.
