First Aid Level 1 Course
Course Overview
Our First Aid Level 1 Course is designed to equip employees, supervisors, managers, and workplace personnel with essential First Aid knowledge, first aid skills, and practical emergency response skills required to respond effectively to workplace medical emergencies. The First Aid Level 1 Course focuses on preserving life, preventing injuries from becoming more serious, promoting recovery, and maintaining a safe working environment. Learners are prepared to act quickly, confidently, and responsibly when faced with an emergency, injury, accident, or sudden medical condition. Through a combination of First Aid theory, practical demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and simulated workplace emergencies, participants develop the confidence required to provide immediate First Aid assistance while waiting for professional medical assistance and Emergency Medical Services to arrive.
The First Aid Level 1 Course provides learners with a clear understanding of the fundamental principles of First Aid and the responsibilities of a workplace First Aider. Participants learn how to assess an emergency scene, identify potential hazards, protect themselves and others, assess a casualty, and determine the appropriate First Aid response. The programme covers the Primary Survey and Secondary Survey, including the recognition of life-threatening conditions and the correct sequence of emergency response. Learners are introduced to safe casualty management, effective communication with emergency services, and the importance of remaining calm, organised, and confident during a workplace emergency. The course helps learners understand how proper First Aid procedures can make a significant difference before professional medical assistance arrives.
A major component of the First Aid Level 1 Course is the practical treatment of common workplace injuries and medical emergencies. Learners receive practical First Aid training in the management of bleeding, wounds, burns, fractures, sprains, strains, soft-tissue injuries, shock, choking, unconscious casualties, and other emergency situations. The training also addresses medical emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, asthma attacks, diabetic emergencies, seizures, and other sudden illnesses. Participants learn how to recognise warning signs, provide appropriate immediate assistance, monitor the casualty, and maintain the casualty’s safety until further medical treatment is available. Practical scenarios allow learners to apply their First Aid skills in realistic workplace situations and develop greater confidence in emergency response.
The First Aid Level 1 Course places particular emphasis on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Basic Life Support (BLS), casualty assessment, and emergency response procedures. Learners are introduced to the correct principles of responding to an unconscious casualty and providing appropriate assistance when a casualty is not breathing normally. Practical demonstrations and hands-on exercises allow participants to practise emergency procedures in a controlled and supervised environment. Learners also gain an understanding of the importance of personal safety, scene assessment, infection prevention, appropriate protective measures, and effective communication with Emergency Medical Services. These practical First Aid skills are essential for employees who may be required to respond to an emergency before professional medical assistance arrives.
Our First Aid Level 1 Course is particularly suitable for organisations that need competent employees who can provide immediate First Aid assistance in the workplace. Properly trained First Aiders can contribute to a stronger occupational health and safety programme, improve emergency preparedness, assist with workplace injury management, and potentially reduce the severity of injuries through timely intervention. First Aid training also helps organisations develop a workplace culture where employees understand the importance of emergency preparedness, accident prevention, responsible workplace safety, and effective emergency response. The training is suitable for employees, supervisors, managers, Health and Safety Representatives, First Aiders, emergency response teams, fire wardens, security personnel, contractors, and other personnel responsible for workplace safety.
By completing the First Aid Level 1 Course, learners gain practical knowledge and emergency response skills that can be applied both in the workplace and in everyday emergency situations. The training helps participants understand how to assess an emergency, provide First Aid, perform CPR and Basic Life Support, manage common workplace injuries, assist casualties, communicate with Emergency Medical Services, and respond confidently until professional medical help arrives. The overall objective of the First Aid Level 1 Course is to develop capable, confident, and prepared workplace First Aiders who understand their responsibilities and can take appropriate action during an emergency. Effective First Aid training provides employees with the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond when it matters most, helping create a safer and better-prepared workplace.
